Indrani Chatterjee is a professional artist based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, specialising in painting. She is originally from Kolkata, India. Though she trained and worked in the corporate sector for several years, painting remained a persistent undercurrent. It was only after becoming a mother, and pausing her corporate career, that she fully turned towards art. What began as a personal refuge soon transformed into a calling.

With a profound appreciation for the beauty of the world beyond its iconic landmarks, she draws inspiration from the delicate interplay of colors, light, and shadows. Her paintings transform everyday scenes into captivating landscapes or timeless faces that blend reality with imagination in an impressionist style, offering a deeply human and unique perspective on the world. Her subjects are often landscapes imagined rather than observed. She is particularly drawn to the symbolism in ice, forests, light, and distance — they evoke quiet power, mystery, and the unseen.

Her process is largely intuitive and deeply connected to her environment. Inspiration often comes unexpectedly while on her way home, heading to the studio, mid conversation with her husband, during her travels, or while taking walks in nature. A painting might start with just a few bits of detail, but then it can be completely reimagined to reflect how she feels and perceives it. People appreciate that personal perspective. She works mostly with oil on canvas, often on medium to large-scale pieces. She is currently focused on developing technical mastery in her work.

Artists like M.F. Hussain, Vincent Van Gogh, and contemporary visionaries who blend the mystical with the earthly have deeply influenced her.

Looking ahead, she hopes to grow both in skill and visibility — to exhibit widely, connect with collectors, and eventually build a body of work that’s deeply cohesive and spiritually resonant. She also hopes to collaborate across disciplines, perhaps bringing together visual art, poetry, and movement in immersive ways
